Smoothing Compounds

Smoothing compounds, also known as self-levelling compounds, are used to create a flat, even surface over concrete or screed substrates prior to the installation of floor finishes such as vinyl, carpet, or laminate. These compounds are typically applied in thin layers and are designed to flow easily, filling minor imperfections and creating a smooth base that enhances the performance and appearance of the final floor covering. They are commonly used in both refurbishment and new-build projects where precision and finish quality are essential.

Modern smoothing compounds are formulated for rapid drying and high compressive strength, allowing for quicker turnaround times and compatibility with a wide range of floor finishes. They can be applied over various substrates, including underfloor heating systems, and are available in both water-based and latex-modified options depending on site conditions and performance requirements. Their use ensures a professional, durable finish and helps prevent issues such as floor covering failure or uneven wear.
